The illustrations in Brian Jacques' first book written entirely in rhyme, are marvellous, and much different from any other Redwall pictures you've seen before. Rather than looking like they'd fight every second their abbey is in danger, the mice, hedgehogs, squirrels, and other woodlanders are all much cuter.

Christopher Denise's illustrations are all drawn on brown butcher paper with pastels, so the atmosphere of an ancient parchment accompanies the fully illustrated book. However, some parts of this book have been changed, so they can rhyme in the book. For example, Silent Sam found himself a new title: Noisy Sam.

Brian Jacques remarked that The Great Redwall Feast was written a little more for mothers to read to their children, but many Redwall lovers will also enjoy it, because there is the challenge of solving a riddle before the end of the rhyme.

The Great Redwall Feast is based on the first great feast in Mr. Jacques' first novel, Redwall. The Redwallers are preparing a secret feast for the Abbot. Matthias, Constance, and Foremole must keep him away from the Abbey long enough for the feast to be prepared.

While Matthias, the Abbot, and companions are travelling the depths of Mossflower Wood, everyone in Redwall Abbey is hustling to make things ready. Dibbuns are bathed, and pies are made, but not all goes well. The mishaps of Redwall will never cease! Where has young Bungo the mole gone? Into the pie! While the good Friar is trying to find him in the turnip 'n' tater 'n' beetroot pie, Bungo eats himself out of the plum pie.
